NCC Making Conscious Effort To Sustain Standards In The Sector

Prof Umar Garba Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission says the commission is making conscious effort to sustain standards that have been achieved in the telecommunication industry in the recent past.

He mentioned this during the World Standards Day awareness workshop organized by the Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, NIEEE at her 14th International Conference and Exhibition on Power and Telecommunications, ICEPT in Port Harcourt.
He said Standardization is a vital global phenomenon, an agreement of sorts on specifications, protocols and processes guiding interoperability, manufacture and exchange of goods and services across jurisdictions.
He stressed that standardization enhances quality and safety and that in the global telecommunications industry, there is an ongoing paradigm shift, platforms and services are converging alongside technologies of the future, termed “emerging technologies”.
He mentioned that ITU is concluding work on the standards that would govern these emerging technologies.
In this opening remarks, the National Chairman of the Institution Engr John Funso-Adebayo called on all stakeholders and engineering personnel to ensure standards are adhere in the course of duty as it is the panacea for engineering development and safety.
According to him, NIEEE was leading in Standards activities among the different divisions of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and that the Institution initiated the commemoration of World Standards Day in the country as is obtained in other parts of the world last year. He promised to sustain the event.
