We Must Deal With Energy-Related Dangers –Nisafetye

The Chairman, Lagos State chapter of Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE), Engr Oluseun Faluyi, has assured Lagosians that the era of incessant environmental hazards in the state and by extension the energy sector would soon be a thing of the past.

Speaking at his investiture as the pioneer Chairman of Lagos chapter of the institute, where 92 members and six associate members were inducted, Faluyi said the establishment of the Institution was borne out of the need to eliminate hazards, minimise risks to life and ensure health and safety of Lagosians.

He explained that the target would be achieved with the crop of trained engineers and safety professionals, adding that the institute would address the challenge of gridlock and the frequent tank explosions across the state.

“Nigerian Society of Engineers established NISE to specifically curb environmental hazards and other actions and inactions of people which has led to loss of lives and properties especially in Lagos, and we must achieve this by ensuring that the right things are done by the right persons in all facets of our life,” he stressed.

The Chapter Chairman said, the Institution would mobilize engineers and members of the public in Lagos to be more aware of safety measures to deploy should there be an emergency situation, adding that advocacy, public education and enlightenment as well as partnership with government and other relevant agencies remains paramount to mitigate environmental hazards.

He added that the Institution was playing advisory role to both private and government through the Lagos state Safety Commission to raise the consciousness of everyone to put safety first in all they do

“The institution is ready to assemble personnel across all areas of safety  to work with the Lagos state Governments in creating an integrated plan or upgrade exiting plans to cater for the current challenges on the roads to ensure safety of persons, given the peculiarities in weather and climatic conditions in the state” he added.  In his keynote address, a fellow of the NSE, Engr Otis Anyaji, said NISafetyE under NSE would continue to advocate for safety and precautionary measures in every aspect of human endeavors in Nigeria.

“Our goal is make our country safer even for the unborn generations and we have the capacity to do that. With what Lagos state is doing by establishing the Safety Commission, I believe other states would borrow a leaf from the Lagos state” he maintained.
