Energizer Unveils Radical Phone With Massive Battery, Lasts For 48 Hours Of Continuous Use

Energizer has released an extra chunky smartphone that’s as thick as three iPhones stacked on top of one another.

The Energizer Power Max P18K Pop is no small design feat, sporting an 18,000 mAh battery that’s a whopping 18mm thick.

The phone is essentially a brick with a screen that promises 48 hours of continuous video playback, or up to 50 days of power on standby.

And it’s not just a concept phone, as Energizer says the Power Max P18K Pop will be priced at 600 euros ($683) and hits the shelves in June.

The battery giant took the wraps off the radical device at the annual Mobile World Congress conference in Barcelona this week, according to Phone Arena.

With a battery that packs 18,000 mAh, that’s over five and a half times the power of an iPhone XS’ 2,658 mAh battery.

This makes it the ‘most powerful battery ever developed for a smartphone,’ according to Energizer.

‘Users will be able to make up to 90hrs of calls, listen to 100hrs of music and watch around 2 days of video on a single charge,’ Energizer said.

The device’s comically large battery attracted some scrutiny among Twitter users.

One user wrote: ‘This Energizer phone is a real thick boi. I’d like to think there is just 8 AA batteries under the case of this thing.’

Another user joked that the phone ‘doubles as a self defense weapon.’

‘Good lord, that Energizer phone is thick,’ IDC analyst Bryan Ma said. ‘It’s as if they took a portable USB power bank and glued a phone to it.’

Somewhat ironically, even though the phone has a ridiculously thick battery – and therefore plenty of extra surface area – Energizer still left off the headphone jack on the Power Max P18K.

But it did fit a 6.2-inch screen on the device, alongside an impressive five cameras.

Two cameras, one being 16 megapixels and the other 2 megapixels, are housed in the front in a pop-up aperture that flips open when you want to take a picture.

The Energizer Power Max P18K Pop is unlikely to fit in your pants pocket and it feels extra clunky, as well as heavy, when placed next to your face

The 6.2-inch display features 1080p resolution and is almost entirely bezel-less.

In all, it has 6gb of RAM, 128GB of storage and is loaded with Android 9 Pie software.

However, early tests of the device don’t appear to be totally perfect.

Additionally, despite its super powerful battery, The Verge noted that performance was glitchy and unreliable.
