India To Launch A Spacecraft “Chandrayaan-2” This July

The spacecraft, called Chandrayaan-2, will launch in July, before landing on the lunar surface in September.

India will attempt to land a spacecraft on the moon in just a few months, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has revealed.

The spacecraft, called Chandrayaan-2, will launch in July, before landing on the lunar surface in September.

Chandrayaan-2 is made up of three modules – an Orbiter, a Lander called Vikram, and a Rover called Pragyan.

After reaching the moon, the Lander will separate from the Orbiter, and land on the lunar South Pole.

There, the Rover will roll out from inside the Lander, before exploring the lunar surface.

In a release about the plans, ISRO explained: “The Rover will roll out for carrying out scientific experiments on the lunar surface.

“Instruments are also mounted on Lander and Orbiter for carrying out scientific experiments.”

This will be the second time that India has launched a spacecraft to the moon.

In 2008, ISRO launched a spacecraft to the moon, although it only orbiting our lunar satellite, rather than landing on it.
