Keke High School Emerges Winner Of The Idiat Amusu Project Skill Competition 2019

Keke Senior High School has emerged the winner of Idiat Aderemi Amusu Project Skill Competition organized for secondary schools students in Lagos state. The event which was held at Ralph Alabi Engineering Centre, Ikeja was attended by eminent members of the engineering profession.  The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ikeja branch dedicates the Annual Project Skill Competition in honour of Engr Mrs  Idiat Amusu who is the first female Agricultural engineering graduate in Nigeria and also first female council member of COREN

Ten schools in the environ contended for the final prize with innovative inventions. The panel of judges led by the APWEN President Engr, Dr Felicia Agubata said the works were assessed based on its techno-viability, originality, low cost of production, use of locally made renewable materials and meeting the needs of the society. Keke High School, Ifako Ijaiye the winner of the competition presented a functional homemade solar panel created from scraps and waste.
Also in second place was the Iju Senior Grammar School who presented a self-powered house that uses a solar panel to generate light in temperate regions and a wind vane as a power source for windy regions of the country.

Another amazing creation at the competition was the homemade rechargeable vacuum cleaner made from locally sourced materials by Vetland Senior Grammar School. The school bagged the third position in the competition. The three winners were awarded scholarships, laptops and cash prizes.
Several dignitaries graced the occasion, among whom were NSE President, Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu represented by the Deputy President Engr Babagana Muhamad, incoming Deputy Governor of Ogun state Engr Mrs Noheemat Salako Oyedele, Engr Mrs Joanna Maduka, Engr Akintunde Zedomi, Engr. Ayo Fanimokun and a host of others.
The celebrant revealed the intention of carrying out a similar project in Abeokuta, Ogun state. The event forms part of the projects the leadership of the branch, Engr Mrs Funmilade Akingbagbohun promised to promote and sustain.
