The Director General of Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON Mr Osita Aboloma has commended the work of the African Electrotechnical Standardization Commission, AFSEC Technical Committee 64 in the journey so far. The DG said before the formation of AFSEC participation in the works of Electrotechnical Committee by African nations was at its lowest ebbs in the number of electrotechnical standards development as well as the ease of adaption/adoption of IEC standards.
In the fields of electrical installation, he mentioned that availability of standards and complying with their requirements are key necessities for Africans because, in the face of scarce energy, managing the little energy available through standardized installations requirement will also enhance energy efficiency, safety of lives and properties, economic emancipation of both individuals and nations and of course enjoying the wonderful beauties of modern engineering.
The director general who was represented by Dr Yayaha Fana mentioned that Nigeria has adopted a good number of AFSEC standards thus justifying its formation. The AFSEC TC 64 is chaired by Engr Cyrus Khalusi from Kenya while Engr Akan Michael was appointed the chairman of the Nigerian National Committee of the International Electrotechnical Commission.
AFSEC technical committee (ATC 64) meeting is on electrical installation and protection against electric shock. The committee will round up its works tomorrow.
