NIEEE Needs To Be Chartered – Funso Adebayo

The National Chairman, the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers,  Engr. John Funso-Adebayo has called on the institute to be chartered to enable it to handle some of the perennial challenges facing the practitioners of the profession. He made the call during the monthly technical session of the Lagos Chapter at the Lagos Energy Academy where a paper was presented on Engineers and the Facility Management Profession by Engr. Bayo Olusodo.

According to him, earning a charter status will allow for the certification of our members on several and ever-widening interdisciplinary fields of electrical engineering. He further said by so doing the jobs of the engineers would be protected from other professionals who are ever willing to encroach on it.

Bayo Olusode maintained that while facility management was not the exclusive preserve of any profession, most of the activities within its scope were technical and that facility management is the organizational function which integrates people, place, and process within the built environment with the purpose of improving the quality of life of people and the productivity of the core business.

He encouraged members to acquire more training in other areas and become versatile so as to be able to compete in the ever-changing world of engineering practice. According to him, engineers can actually lead others and determine what goes on there without being used by other professionals to achieve their pecuniary gains.
