Tokyo Electron has told Reuters that it will not sell equipment to Chinese firms black-listed by the US government
At the moment Fujian Jin Hua’s plans to build a DRAM fab are held up because it can’t buy production equipment because of the US ban,
“We would not do businesses with Chinese clients with whom Applied Materials and Lam Research are barred from doing businesses,” a Tokyo Electron exec told Reuters, “it’s crucial for us that the U.S. government and industry see us as a fair company.”
Although China has chip design capability as good as anything in the US, it lags behind in manufacturing capability and lags even more in producing the equipment which is used to manufacture chips.
However China design companies are still at liberty to use TSMC to fab their designs.
