At the Tech Money and Innovation Summit Africa held at Unilag, three groups emerged winners from the Hackathon series from several other groups of Hackers from Universities around Nigeria. The first place winner, team Gridzer bagged the cash prize of 1.5 million naira with an all expense paid trip to South African innovation summit and admittance into Unicorn programme. Team Fibre came second with the prize money of 700,000 and other benefits while team Energetic came third with prize money of 500,000 naira with other benefits attached. The purpose of the competition was to discover and encourage research in Hackathon among young people in Nigeria.
The programme which was organized by Unicorn, an emerging Pan African investment company that targets innovative startup ideas and provide training, mentorship, infrastructure, and long term capital to entrepreneurs in technology-enabled strategy.
Like never before, they intend to build a tech ecosystem in Nigeria and Africa at large by launching their tech-enabled campuses in October this year. Over twenty-five speakers were at the event. Notable attendees among them were Obinna Ekezie CEO of Wakanow, Paul Kalmes, GM the Vault San Francisco, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe and Latifu Kola Abiola, chairman of Unicorn but a few to mention.
