Elon Musk Announces New Racing Game Built Into Tesla Cars Steering Wheel

First, Tesla gamified the infotainment system in its cars. Now, the firm is doing the same to its steering wheels.

At E3 on Thursday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced a slew of games set to arrive in cars, including one that lets players control a virtual vehicle using the actual steering wheel in the driver’s seat.

Musk said Tesla owners will soon be able to download Beach Buggy Racing 2 to their vehicle’s dashboard.

‘I mean, if you have a racing game and you have a steering wheel…it’s sitting right there, waiting to be steered,’ Musk quipped on stage.

He explained that users will not only be able to use the steering wheel, but the vehicle’s brake will also be wired into the game.

In the future, Musk said the steering wheel’s scroll button could even be connected to the game, so that players can use it to accelerate in games.

Musk didn’t say when Beach Buggy Racing 2 would be available, but he announced several other games that will also be available soon.

Among them are the wildly popular simulation game Fallout Shelter, as well as Cuphead, a side-scroller game modeled after 1930s cartoons.

That’s in addition to a number of classic Atari games that are already available in Tesla vehicles.

Users are also able to hook up an Xbox or PlayStation controller to the dashboard.

In order to play a game, users have to make sure their car is parked and connected to a WiFi network.

Musk said Tesla decided to launch more in-car games as a way to make them ‘the most fun possible.’

‘If you’re parked somewhere waiting for somebody to finish an appointment, or if you’re on a road trip, it’d be pretty cool if you could just go to the car screen and play a fun game,’ Musk said.

‘We’re exploring how to make it as fun as possible.’

He added that he envisions users being able to play a game in their car while they’re at a Supercharger station, waiting for their Tesla to charge up.

Tesla will look at how users receive the games to determine whether it should add more titles or capabilities in the future, Musk said.

Musk has been known to roll out unique features to Tesla’s massive in-car display.

For example, the cars have ‘Dog Mode,’ that lets drivers leave the air conditioning on while they’re away from the vehicle, so that pups can stay cool while inside.

Additionally, late last year, Tesla rolled out ‘Fart Mode,’ which operates just like the name suggests.

In addition to Atari games, the in-car display houses ‘easter eggs’ like Fart Mode, which when activated, lets the driver make a fart noise with just a push of a button.

They can choose which seat they want the fart noise to come from, as well as the type sound they want it to make, such as ‘Ludicrous,’ ‘Falcon Heavy’ and more.

Musk joked at E3 that Fart Mode is his ‘finest work’ yet.
