The Federal Minister of Housing and Works, Babatunde Raji Fashola represented by Estate Surveyor E S B Alawude at the 5th edition of the Nigeria’s Construction Industry Hall of Fame 2019 said that the Ministry through its National Housing Program in the states of Nigeria is addressing the deficit in the Nigerian Construction and Housing Sector by building projects carried out in states. This program is been carried out already in other states with an exception of Lagos State who is yet to provide suitable lands for the project to begin.
He stated that since 2011, the Ministry of Housing and Works has adopted sustainable development goals that include the deployment of infrastructures such as solar plant, solar street light, CCTV cameras in schools, construction of maternity health centres, the repair and construction of roads all across Nigeria to boost accessibility. Also, the Ministry has partnered with the Nigeria Energy Support Program to develop the energy sector.
At the biennial event set up to honour and celebrate people who have attained professionalism in building engineering both in the public and private sectors, he admonished the stakeholders in the construction sector that the country was in dire need of professionalism to bring supportive innovations to create amenities. According to him, ” this is an age of smart cities and tech disruptions, the construction industry must rise”.
