Abstract
The Nigeria maritime industry has evolved over the years since its earliest foundations in the mid-1950s when Nigeria’s first indigenous shipping line, ‘The Nigeria Line’ was established by Mr. Patrick Osoba as a joint venture with the Finnish film, Nordstrom and company. Furthermore, the evolution of the Nigeria fleet will be analysed statistically from 1980-2017 indicating what happened between those years. There are many challenges that affect the Maritime Transportation Industry in Nigeria even in recent times and these have to be solved and taken into consideration because this industry plays a vital role in the economy and growth of the nation. These challenges include, but not limited to funding, manpower, legislation, pollution, lack of safety and so on. These would be expatiated further into this paper, and proposal will be given on how to boost the Nigeria Maritime Industry.
The role of Maritime Transportation in the context of economic, political, social and historical development of different developed, underdeveloped, or countries is undeniable of very great importance to each nation. The economic level on adequate and efficient maritime transport systems plays a vital role in the development of a country’s market especially the market of international trade by transforming local market national, regional and international focus. Thus, this is the height the Nigeria Maritime Industry should strive to attain and even surpass.

Digitalization can promote this industry in the aspect of monitoring every vessel leaving the nation whereby if there is anything incident in the vessel,it will be noticed immediately.
And another is constructing a shoe that can float on water in case of any incident.
Another one is constructing a device in form of drone that can locate any metallic object that falls into water and bringing it ou without any stress.

Firstly,the man power development and the cabotage act needs uppermost attention because anything concerning the maritime industries are inter-related, so one cannot be give more consideration to.
Secondly, concerning the shipping industry in Nigeria,the cabotageact should be completely revised in order to harness the maritime sector in Nigeria.
Concerning your other question about how Nigerians working in the maritime sector should secure there job in order not to be taking away by the foreigners. The problem this country is having presently is that this country do not know the worth of their fellow people, that is the more reason why most Nigerian’s prefer to be taken away by the foreigners. The federal need to see to the affairs of those working in the maritime sector by making them to know their usefulness in the country and if it takes to increase there salary,it should be done and any foreigner who wish to take anyone from that sector,should be base on contract including the time he need to spend and return back to his/her country.
Concerning marine engineers meeting up to the standard. Yes it is possible if only the federal government is willing to create facilities, equipment and other requirements. The most important is building of maritime schools and raising funds to the existing ones and making those who are ready to study that course can be given scholarship to study that in different part of the world and training them also. After these they should have their COREN certificate. Federal government should try to reduce fees for maritime schools because some are willing but they don’t have the money.

These two sectors (manufacturing and steel production) are not only important in Shipbuilding but also crucial for in-country maintenance of our vessels. What strategy do you advise we as a people adopt to ensure government creates a favourable environment for our maritime industry to truly thrive?

Firstly, As a young learner, I’m open to different writing styles and in the course of writing my abstract, I read quite a number of articles and resolved to using the format. This is because i have to gather steps on writing especially abstract for the engineers.
Secondly,I read a couple of articles about abstract online and tried my best to provide an overview or summary as it were for people who might not have the time to read the entire paper.

I approached this work as purely an essay and not a research paper which is why I tried to avoid the in-text citations and the diagram.
Secondly, as for the diagram,I included one in my PowerPoint presentation so as to help butress the point I made in the paper.

Firstly, in my opinion, I think some of our Port are under-utilized. This is because the Lagos port complex in Apapa is the largest and busiest and most of the activities are concentrated there and this has caused a lot of inconvenience for business and people residing in the area, example of such is the famous Apapa gridlock. More seaport need to be built in other to de-congest such activities.
Secondly, the maritime industry has had quite a number of positive impact on local indigenes in terms of employment opportunities and business opportunities. Although there are some associated with this but the positive influence or impact outweighs the negative.

We need to demand accountable leadership from government officials especially in the ministry of transportation. On our own, we need to do a lot to create awareness about the huge potential in the maritime industry through social media,print and visual media and so on.
Also aspiring entrepreneurs in the maritime industry should be strongly encouraged.
Finally, a public-private partnership should be strongly encouraged soas to help boost the maritime industry.
