The Federal government has said it is working on draft guideline on the inclusion of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, LPG, piping into the National Building Code, for domestic use in the country.
The Chairman, Nigeria National Building Code Advisory Committee, Mohammed Saworaja stated this during a courtesy visit to the minister of works and housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola in Abuja.
He explained that when operational, it would address environmental issues, which were highpoints raised and reviewed by the committee. He said that the validation forum for the initiative would be in January 2020.
The chairman further added that discussions are on the implication of seismic tendency, stressing that this was prompted by recent report of earth tremor in some parts of Federal Capital Territory.
“In line with Section3.1.5 of the Code, the committee reached out to some identified local and international organisations, with a view to exploring opportunities for information sharing,” he added.
In his remarks, the minister of works and housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, who frowned at incidences of collapse buildings in the cities, maintained that issue of designs and material would be strictly monitored. He said, “We would hold people, or professional responsible in any case that happen. We will not waive the issue of compliance again.”
