IBM, Zhangjiang Partner To Build First AI Center In China

IBM and Zhangjiang Group announced on Friday that they would establish a Watson Build artificial intelligence innovation center in Shanghai, a world-class AI center, as the first in its kind in China.

Both sides will also sign an agreement on a three-year AI ecosystem cooperation, covering the Watson center, digital innovation and AI talent and AI startup incubation.

IBM has set up a facility in the Zhangjiang AIsland, a new hub for the AI industry developed and operated by Zhangjiang Group. At present, there are 22 smart future application exhibits centered around new AI technologies on the AIsland, such as speech recognition, computer vision and deep learning.

IBM was recently ranked the world’s No. 1 leader in the AI market for the third consecutive year, according to researcher IDC.

Watson Build AI Innovation Center will become a world-class AI collaborative innovation platform jointly built by IBM and Zhangjiang Group. The goal is to explore AI application scenarios, and to build industry applications and an ecosystem based on IBM’s leading cloud and cognitive technologies.

The center will serve about 500 firms on AI and high-tech sectors, officials said.
