Minister of State for Science and Technology, Mohammed Abdullahi, has commended the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion for saving about N280bn for Nigeria through its activities.
Abdullahi, who paid a facility visit to the organisation on Tuesday, appealed to NOTAP to strive to do more.
The minister of state advised the management of NOTAP to handle the agency’s operations with discretion, particularly registration of contracts for the transfer of foreign technology.
Abdullahi urged the agency to ensure that Nigeria was not made a dumping ground for all sorts of technologies.
He said special care should be taken on technology coming from countries that were known for producing substandard products.
According to him, NOTAP was important in the Federal Government’s quest for technological transformation in the country.
He further advised that NOTAP to use the patents generated by its services to improve the country’s economy.
The Permanent Secretary, Mohammed Umar, expressed satisfaction with NOTAP for recording several achievements with little resources.
Director General of NOTAP, Professor Dan-Azumi Ibrahim, assured that the agency would work harder to actualise its mandate.
