AR, VR Aimed At Improving Mobile Workforce Service

Increasingly, utilities are equipping their field service techs with mobile devices. With the tools, employees enter information in remote locations more efficiently than traditional methods. On the horizon looms an extension of the technology: teaming it with Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality solutions, which represent a booming market.

Worldwide spending on (AR/VR) is forecast to reach $18.8 billion in 2020, an increase of 78.5% over the $10.5 billion spent last year, according to International Data Corporation. The emerging workforce solutions have the potential to improve technician training, providing them with more immersive experience than those now available.  Trouble shooting problems in the field is another area of interest.

Rather than sifting through bulky manuals, field techs can use AR/VR to determine why a device is not working. How much interest has your firm shown in this area?
