“Review Existing Regulations And New Directives With Regards To Electricity In Nigeria” — Engr. Austyne Duru.

At a workshop recently held in Lagos, participants were briefed and adequately given an in-depth analysis of certain trends in the energy industry of Nigeria. The workshop themed: ‘Energy Service Business and Regulations’ exposed a lot of the lacuna in the said industry to which participants expressed their concerns and also recommended relevant and helpful solutions to some of the highlighted problems. The free and sponsored event was attended by a combination of industry experts, interested electricity users, and the press.

The workshop which was anchored and presented by Engr. Austyne Duru, the founder and senior consultant for Modulus Resource Provision Limited based a lot on statistics and facts of the energy sector such as the figures for the available generation capacity operationally in Nigeria which he put at 7,653 megawatt for a generation capacity of 12,910 which is currently installed. He also stated that “the transmission network to wheeling capacity is at 8,100 megawatt of generated power, whereas the distribution network hardly loads up to 4,000 megawatt of consumer circuit”.

Speaking to the attendees, the engineer expressly stated that the workshop’s aim was to target key stakeholders, in his words, “target business owners, estate managers, estate developers, investors, energy practitioners, electricity pundits, the general public, among others, to promote businesses in the sector by providing technical and commercial insights” which he believes would be the driving force for a “successful implementation of off-grid electricity power system” as “the limitations currently witnessed in the achievement of stable power supply in the country is due to a lack of coherent policy and programme that promotes consistency in implementation by successive administrations after our independence”.
