Skill is something, attitude is everything. This holds for everyone especially the skilled professionals. Day in day out, people are being engaged to render services to individuals, corporate organizations and institutions depending on the skill possessed. Engaging a professional on service the client has little or no knowledge about can only exacerbate the client’s dependency on whatever advice and decision to be taken by the professional on the job.

There are 1.74 billion websites on the internet according to Websitehostingrating.com in January 2020 and Quora.com says less than 200 million are active. This means a lot of people are engaged in building these sites and the numbers grow per second squared. Websites are used by organizations and individuals to communicate to the public on who they are, what they do, what to do and what was done. This depends on its purpose and usage. Wikipedia defines a website as a collection of web pages and related content that is identified by a common domain name and published on at least one web server. It could be static or interactive where contents can be updated periodically or real-time.

Websites are particularly built for a subject matter and purpose and every owner must define the niche, such as entertainment, news, social networking, education, commerce etc According to gadgetsnow.com, the 10 most visited websites are Google, YouTube, Facebook, Baidu, Wikipedia, Amazon, Twitter, Instagram, Yahoo and Xvideos.

Websites are built by Website Designers or Webmasters and are also maintained by them. Once the brief is taken from the client, a concept is developed to produce an architecture that is approved by the client. The approved architecture should serve the purpose the site is intended for. There are some apps or software the web designer may consider for the work depending on the need.  These include WordPress, Mockplus, Macaw, Weebly, Adobe Dreamweaver, Bootstrap, Codepen etc

Some sites (blogs) require regular maintenance after it is commissioned and so webmasters are prone to see blogs as meal tickets thereby increasing clients’ dependency. Most webmasters always appear to be busy and choose when to communicate with clients. They choose when to respond to emails and chats and sometimes when to pick calls. Demanding for the cPanel login details from a webmaster afterwards may be seen as a threat to working relationship. However, it is proper a relationship is established between a webmaster and client following the tips to avoid undue exploitation and dependency.

  1. Choose a webmaster through referral; it will address the challenge of hiring one with a bad attitude
  2. Have a firm agreement; on a whole, this is supposed to checkmate every unforeseen and unwholesome situation
  3. Keep constant communication with the webmaster; however poor it might be, it will alert on immediate impasse if there is any.
  4. Employ an experienced staff to interface with the webmaster in all activities especially if it’s a blog. This certainly will reduce dependency and exploitation.
  5. Ensure details of password and ID are securely kept by the individual or organization.
  6. Above all, try and have a harmonious working relationship keeping to terms of the agreement as well. This will reduce tension between both parties.
