ABSTRACT
Large dependence of thermal plants on scarce fossil fuels to generate electricity has brought about Economic Dispatch as an important tool in power system. The Nigerian power system has grown tremendously since the deregulation regime started in 2005; the need to find an efficient optimization solution method for its Economic Dispatch problem. This work considered Valve-Point loading effects to obtain accurate and practical solution of the Nigerian power system using Interior Point Method which is the most successful non-deterministic optimization method. It was observed that IPM was able to solve the problem efficiently and performed better than other optimization methods.
