The Potentials Of Energy Internet And Block Chain Technology On The Nigerian National Grid (Ref. CS0073)

ABSTRACT

Nigeria Government’s Vision 30:30:30 seeks to generate 30GW of electricity by year 2030, 30% of which will be from renewable energy resources.. This can be seen as a friendly gesture towards redefining the country’s story of energy poverty. However, the important question is, will the national grid, in its today’s conventional structure, be able to cope with the complexity of infusing renewable sources into the country’s energy mix? How can the grid best be prepared for the above task? In this paper, we give an overview of the intelligrid, its subsequent transition into what is termed the energy internet and how it can address the complexities of distributed generation that will soon replace today’s centralized one. We further depicted how blockchain technology can be used to secure the grid from malicious attacks in its cyberspace and aid in secure energy trading between prosumers.
