Total and its partners have discovered a second large gas condensate field on block 11B/12B in the Outeniqua basin, 175 km (109 mi) off the southern coast of South Africa.
The Luiperd-1X discovery well, drilled by the semisubmersible Deepsea Stavanger in 1,800 m (5,905 ft) of water, follows the play-opening Brulpadda find in early 2019.
Luiperd-1X, drilled to a TD of around 3,400 m (11,155 ft), penetrated 73 m (239 ft) of net gas condensate pay in what Total described as well-developed and good-quality lower Cretaceous reservoirs. The well did not encounter the water contact.
Following coring and logging, the well will be tested to assess the dynamic reservoir characteristics and deliverability.

Africa Energy has 49% of the shares in Main Street 1549 (Proprietary), which has a 10% interest in block 11B/12B. The other partners are Qatar Petroleum International Upstream and CNR International.
