Nokia Leads EU 6G Group

A group of companies and universities called Hexa-X is being funded by the EU to pursue 6G telephony.

Telefonica, Intel, Siemens and the universities of Oulu and Pisa.

“The main goal will be to develop the vision, the road map and the timeline,”  says Nokia’s Devaki Chandramoulishe who is leading the group,  “then put together a timeline for the technology direction.”

“And the third point is to facilitate the interaction with U.S. government agencies to fund the research and also provide the input for the technology development.”

Other 6G development initiatives are a China group and the US-led alliances the Next G Alliance and O-RAN Alliance.

6G technology is expected to use  terahertz frequencies with 100Gbps download speeds.
