Smartphone Companies To Build Assembly Plants In Nigeria – FG

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva, yesterday said major international smart phone companies had concluded plans to establish assembly plants in the country, as part of an agreement brokered to boost Local Content Development.

The minister said this in Kano during the graduation ceremony of 1,000 youths trained on GSM Phone Repairs, Maintenance, Software and Hardware Specialisation.

According to him, 1,000 youths have already graduated, while the remaining 400 are expected to graduate before January 1, 2021.

He also disclosed that 2,800 Youths, drawn from Yobe, Bauchi and Cross River States have already been trained, as smart phone repairs and technologies.

The minister, who spoke via Zoom conference, added that Nigeria had the highest GSM market in Africa.

In his remark, House of Representatives member representing Nassarawa Federal Constituency, Kano, said the training of the 1,000 youths on GSM phone repairs and software maintenance was part of his empowerment programme.
