The Transmission Company of Nigeria on announced yesterday a new peak power generation of 5,801.60 megawatts and stated that this quantum of electricity was transmitted to power distributors across the country.
It said the new peak was recorded on March 1 at 9.30pm, adding that it was evacuated at a frequency of 50.09 hertz.
The General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, Ndidi Mbah, said in a statement issued in Abuja that the new peak was higher than the previous peak by 186.20MW.
She said, “TCN successfully transmitted an enhanced peak generation of 5,801.60MW at 9:30pm on March 1st, 2021.
“The latest peak generation was transmitted at a frequency of 50.09Hz. This value is higher than 5,615.40MW recorded on February 28, 2021 by 186.20MW.”
The power transmission firm had earlier announced on Monday night that it successfully transmitted a peak generation of 5,615.40MW on Sunday, February 28, at about 9:30pm.
It said the peak generation which was transmitted at a frequency of 50.20Hz surpassed the previous one of 5,593.40MW which occurred on February 25, 2021 by 22MW.
“Also, on Friday, 26th February, 2021, TCN equally transmitted a new Maximum Daily Energy of 116,891.14MWH which is higher than the previous value of 116,121.42MWH achieved on Thursday, 25th of February, by 769.72MWH,” the firm stated.
The Managing Director, TCN, Sule Abdulaziz, said the consistent increase in the peak generation was due to the synergy among power sector participants.
He said it was also due to the concerted efforts by TCN to ensure that all generated power was wheeled to distribution load centres nationwide.
Abdulaziz said TCN would continue to work hard to complete ongoing projects and undertake new ones in order to put in place an efficient transmission grid, despite challenges posed by vandalism and insecurity.
