NIEE, COREN Call For Improved Local Engineering Contents

The Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria have called for  the  implementation and enforcement of  the Presidential Executive Order 5 to improve local engineering contents across the country.

According to a statement issued by the institute, the professional bodies spoke when the National Chairman, NIEE, Olalekan Ajani, led some members of the executive of the body on a courtesy visit to the President, COREN, Ali Rabiu.

The two bodies said there was a need to recognise environmental engineering as a distinct body of engineering in all higher institutions across the country, with its own scheme of service in the civil service at the Federal, state and local government levels, and to have its own COREN seal.

During the visit, the COREN president and 20 other engineers were decorated with the fellowship of the institute as notable environmental engineers that had contributed immensely to the conducive environment for sustainable development in Nigeria.

Other deliberations during the visit were the need to create conducive environment and collaboration with NSE for formation of a third force and pressure group to fight for improved condition and more rewarding services for engineers and to collaborate with NSE for the development of all divisions of engineering continuous mandatory professional development programme for capacity building.
