The Nigerian Institute of Electronic Electrical and Electronic Engineers -NIEEE on Saturday confered 20 members as fellows of the Institute enjoined them to show greater commitment in whatever they do.
The 11th Fellowship Conferment Ceremony which took place at the Institute Secretariat Conference Hall, Maitama, Abuja had in attendance notable personalities from engineering sector.
Speaking at the conferment ceremony, the National Chairman/Chairman-in-Council of NIEEE, Engr. Michael Akan, congratulated the newly conferred fellow stressing that much demand is placed on them for a committed and greater responsibility.
He said the initiative to confer on her eminent members with the prestigious honour of fellowship in recognition of their contributions to Electrical and Electronic Engineering profession has been sustained in the past 7 years with more members being conferred with fellowship every year.
According to him, “there is a shortfall in the number of members so recognized with over 250,000 EE engineers out there and over 15,000 members registered with the institute has less than 300 members in the fellowship cadre. We must do enough to continue to recognize deserving and qualified members of our great institute who have distinguished themselves”.
Engr. Akan further stressed the need to engage political class to finding a lasting solution to the lingerie challenges facing the country within our space of practice. “We must contribute in no small measures by using innovative technologies to address the security challenges and epileptic power supply”.
The National Chairman ceased the occasion to announce that the National Assembly has transmitted the bill for an Act to alter the provisions for the 1999 Constitution to allow states to micromanage the power sector of the nation.
He added the fellows should be at the forefront in engaging the State Assemblies towards smooth passage of the Bill.
As part of its continues effort in ensuring the development of her profession and members, Engr. Akan recalled the webinar session organized by the Institute on the amendment NITDA Act No. 28 2007, noting that its furthering discussion with NITDA on the bill is to also ensure that its members are protected.
Engr. Akan who stated that all effort is greatly needed at this time the nation is bedeviled with series of challenges commended the leadership role of the Board of Fellows for haven organized a roundtable conference with the theme “The Nigerian Power Sector: Plans, Programs and Policies for Sustainable Development” to solving the recurrent problems in the sector.
In his welcome address, the Fellowship Board Chairman, Engr. Isaac Adekanye described the occasion as the highest award of fellowship by the NSE and NIEEE bestowed on deserving members.
According to him, a careful scrutiny is carried out in accordance of the set criteria to choose some well qualified ever busy professionals to be honoured.
While expressing his delight, Engr. Adekanye felicitated with the new fellows of the Institute and urged them to strive harder in all they do to achieve greater successes in their endeavours particularly at the time the country is confronted with slew of infrastructure issues mainly in the provision of long-term power and energy.
Engr. Adekanye also took the opportunity to acknowledge the past and present leaders of this great institute for the emmenced contributions to the growth and development of the institution
