Smart Infrastructure Will Offer Nigeria Numerous Advantages –Adegbiji

The Chief Operating Officer, MDXi Data Centre, Gbenga Adegbiji, has said that smart infrastructure, enabled by technologies like Internet of Things (IoT), will offer numerous advantages in the country.

Adegbiji said this, at the weekend, during the inauguration of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE), Victoria Island chapter/investiture ceremony in Lagos, with the theme, “Technology, Infrastructure and Business in the 21st Century.”

According to him, the advantages would create opportunities for early adopters to establish themselves as leading players on a global scale.

He stressed that Nigeria’s challenge in this 21st century is to have a translation from being an invention society to an innovation society.

Also, the newly-inaugurated Cairman of NIEEE, Victoria Island chapter, Taiwo Okharedia, in his welcome speech noted that the institution, Island branch is 15,000 member-strong guild of Nigerian engineers with interest across the various specialties and disciplines that belies it, both in practice and in learning scattered across the globe and helping to advance the cause of mankind in various sectors of the economy, both in pubic and private sector such as telecoms, regulatory agencies, oil and gas, electricity supply industry, renewable energy and construction.

“This goes to accentuate the depth, diversity, capacity and competence of electrical and electronics engineers servicing them by daily proving their invaluable technical skills providing solutions for the comfort and convenience of Lagos and Nigeria at large,” he said.

Also, NIEEE National chairman, Engr. Akan Michael stressed that the institute core cardinal mandate is to register members.

“We have to reach out to our members, we have some objectives to attain, we train our members, we advocate for them, we conduct research when necessary, we also develop standard so we need our members everywhere with their core expertise to be part of standard development,” he said.

Michael added that the Institute is contributing to international growth in terms of standard and also enhancing their capability as a nation and improving our their standard as it were for higher productivity.
