The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) limited has sensitised hundreds of public schools teachers in Rivers State, on teaching mechanism for science and technology.
The teachers selected from over 10 government-owned schools in the state expressed satisfaction at the end of the three-day capacity building workshop organised for them in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Speaking at the programme, Head of Sustainable Development, NLNG, Vera Ogolo, explained that the workshop was part of the Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) for host communities of the gas company.
She explained that the training will empower the teachers to become more efficient in impacting knowledge to the students in their various schools.
“What we just witnessed is one of our CSRs which is under education, science quiz. After the science quiz edition for this year, we got all the teachers who trained those students that participated in the quiz and organised this for them to enhance their teaching methods.
“We are not going to tell them on how to teach, but strategizing them on engaging the students in a way that the children are better than we met them. We have teachers from 10 schools who participated in this programme.
“Education, without a teacher the classroom might as well be a playground. We saw the gaps during our quiz competition for the students, we brought the teachers to show them the need to empower themselves.
“What they are doing today, is learning new skills to deliver those subjects they are actually good at to the students”, Ogolo explained.
One of the facilitators who spoke during the training, Segun Oyegbesan, Head of People Development at Dragnet Solution Limited, expressed the satisfaction that the teachers were fully impacted at the end of the programme.
Oyegbesan who applauded the teachers for their commitment during the workshop, said “they were very energetic through out the session and they provided us with feedback as well”.
He added: “We were engaged by NLNG to deliver this three-day teachers training. One of the core objectives was to deliver a programme that will impact on the teachers even after the training exercises is completed.
“Some key things for us was to make sure that we impact, improve on their communication skills and make sure they engage all their students effectively after now. We wanted to make sure that we built on their capacity to engage with different types of students.”
A teacher who gave her name as Naomi Ikpoki, from Oginigba Comprehensive Secondary School, Port Harcourt, expressed joy that she participated at the training.
