FG Launches LSM-Branded CNG Airport Shuttle Buses

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially deployed a fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses produced by Lanre Shittu Motors (LSM) for airport shuttle services. This initiative aims to enhance public transportation at airports across the country. The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo confirmed that these buses are part of a broader effort to improve passenger movement and promote environmentally friendly transport options in Nigeria.

The newly introduced buses include two specifications: a 31-seater designed specifically for intra-airport shuttles and a larger 54-seater intended for mass transit. Both models are equipped with multiple CNG cylinders, enabling them to travel between 450 to 500 kilometers before needing a recharge. They also feature amenities such as charging stations for electronic devices, air conditioning, and viewing screens.

The deployment of these CNG buses is expected to significantly reduce operational costs by up to 70% compared to traditional diesel buses. The cost of CNG is notably lower than diesel, making it a more economical choice for public transportation. This move aligns with the government’s commitment to transitioning towards cleaner energy sources and reducing the carbon footprint associated with public transport.

Future Plans: This deployment is part of a larger initiative by the Nigerian government to introduce over 500 CNG and 100 electric buses aimed at improving public transport infrastructure while addressing fuel subsidy removal impacts. The government is actively working towards expanding this initiative further in the coming years
