ABSTRACT
There is little doubt that Nigeria’s development has been affected by its persistent inability to provide energy for institutions and society. More so, Africa’s largest economy is in dire need to seek alternatives within its energy sources. This paper focuses on the possibility of nuclear energy that might serve as a means to close the existing disparity in prospects. It looks into the strategic opportunities for atomic energy, with special attention to Nigeria’s economic centres, Lagos, Rivers and Kano. Energy gaps in Nigeria are assessed in this study to demonstrate how nuclear energy can make up for these deficiencies. Today, nuclear energy has the advantages of reliability and scalability compared to other energy sources. Despite this, there are some limitations with this type of energy which include safety issues, political barriers and public view. In this paper, we discuss these concerns and put forward remedies that would not contradict Nigeria’s energy objectives. This approach examines international ideologies and how they can be practically taken into Nigeria. This dissertation provides a detailed strategy for deploying nuclear power in Nigeria’s energy system with an emphasis on technical requirements and economic considerations. The results of this study illustrate the necessity of the appropriate design and upgrading of interfaces for the technologies based on nuclear energy. This strategy could increase Nigeria’s energy deficit as well as change the nation to be the centre of sustainable energy development in Africa.

When talking about nuclear energy, our environmental safety is first put into consideration before anything can go on, because their are both international and local bodies, like International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA), Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority(NNRA), that have regulatory standards to ensure the proper use of nuclear energy, so as to gain the best out of it, while also ensuring the safety of our environment.
Nuclear energy is more environmentally friendly when compared to alternative sources of energy like fossil fuels, which is Nigeria’s primary source of energy. This fossil fuels generate large amounts of carbon dioxide (COâ‚‚) and other pollutants when burned, which on the other
hand, nuclear energy does not produce carbon dioxide (COâ‚‚), because its energy generation is through nuclear fission and not combustion which fossil fuel makes use of. Nuclear energy is know as a low-carbon source of electricity, which in general is good for our environment, our health, our ecosystem, our weather, our ocean.
With the proper management of nuclear energy with the right international and local standards, nuclear energy can be maintained, sustained, and managed to give us clean energy, while also being environmental friendly.

Nuclear power plant produces nuclear waste which are radioactive in nature and can remain hazardous for a good number of years. It requires special storage facilities for disposal.

The economic impact of nuclear energy on Nigeria would be transformational in the long run. Nuclear power has the potential to substantially lessen the nation’s dependency on pricey fossil fuels, spur industrialization, and draw in foreign investment by offering a stable, low-cost, and high-output energy source. Businesses and industries that today spend millions on diesel generators because of unstable electricity would gain from reduced operating costs, which would boost economic growth and productivity.
Going further, the construction of nuclear power plants will increase Nigeria’s energy security, protect the country’s economy from changes in the price of gas and oil globally, and provide high-skilled jobs.
This system might be useful for other African nations as well. With Nigeria setting the example, nearby countries could follow suit with nuclear projects, lowering their energy shortfalls and fostering regional economic integration. A new energy market and closer economic relations could result from African nations experiencing power outages importing electricity from Nigeria. Nigeria might also establish itself as a center for nuclear knowledge, training, and technology export, establishing itself as a frontrunner in Africa’s shift to sustainable energy.

Given Nigeria’s abundance of natural resources, the country’s ongoing energy crisis sparked my interest in researching nuclear energy as an alternative option. Businesses and people have been forced to rely on costly and environmentally harmful alternatives, such as diesel generators, due to the nation’s decades-long struggles with an inconsistent electrical supply. This inefficiency has a detrimental effect on industry, healthcare, and education, slows economic progress, and deters foreign investment.
One dependable, scalable, and low-carbon power source that can give Nigeria the high-capacity electricity it needs to support industrialization and economic growth is nuclear energy. Its ability to change economies and lessen reliance on fossil fuels is demonstrated by its success in other nations, such as South Korea, USA, Russia and France.

Good review.
