The rapid advancement of drone technology is poised to transform aviation operations across multiple sectors.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced that drone technology will drive aviation operations to enhance safety and reduce costs.
Keyamo made this statement on Thursday in Abuja during a one-day workshop focused on the advancement of ‘NAVAID’ drones in air navigation and safety.
The workshop aimed to explore the challenges and opportunities in air navigation while highlighting how advanced drone technology can revolutionize the aviation sector.
Speaking through the Director of Air Safety at the ministry, Chukwu Micheal, Keyamo stated, “NavAid drones represent a cutting-edge innovation in aerospace tools that not only improve safety but also optimize operations, cut costs, and promote sustainability.”
He further emphasized, “Air navigation and safety have always been fundamental to the aviation industry. With increasing air traffic, the demand for innovative, efficient, and reliable solutions is more urgent than ever. Nigeria is entering a new era in aerospace where technologies like NavAid drones are transforming air navigation, safety, and operational efficiency.”
Similarly, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, highlighted the importance of efficient and sustainable air navigation systems as Nigeria experiences rapid growth in air traffic, urbanization, and economic development.
Represented by Mr. Jude Tayo, Director of Air Traffic, Umar added, “Ensuring the safety of passengers, crew, and aircraft, along with seamless airspace operations, is crucial to maintaining Nigeria’s leadership in Africa’s aviation industry—a goal that NavAid is specifically designed to achieve.”
