NRC Strengthens Collaboration With NSE -

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr. Kayode Opeifa, has applauded Nigerian Engineers for their exceptional dedication, competence, and resilience. He gave the commendation while receiving the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE, during an official visit to the NRC headquarters in Lagos few days ago.

Dr. Opeifa highlighted several real-life instances where Nigerian Engineers demonstrated remarkable ingenuity in resolving complex operational and infrastructural challenges within the NRC and across the country. According to him, these professionals often stepped in under extremely demanding conditions yet delivered outstanding results. He described Nigerian Engineers as “some of the finest technical professionals globally,” urging that they be given more opportunities to innovate and contribute significantly to national development. Empowering local engineers, he noted, is vital to sustaining growth, reducing dependence on foreign expertise, and building a stronger, technology-driven Nigeria.

In her remarks, NSE President commended the NRC boss for the steady and visible progress recorded under his leadership. She noted improvements in work ethics, value-for-money project execution, and transparency within the corporation—measures that she said have helped rebuild public confidence in the railway sector. The NSE President added that these improvements align with the Society’s broader vision of strengthening accountability, operational efficiency, and service delivery across Nigeria’s infrastructure landscape.

The NSE President also used the visit to outline the NSE’s strategic priorities and reiterate the Society’s readiness to support NRC through its specialised engineering divisions. These divisions, she explained, are equipped to collaborate with the NRC on technical projects, policy advisory, and joint capacity development programmes tailored to modernise Nigeria’s rail infrastructure.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening institutional collaboration. While Dr. Opeifa pledged continued reliance on Nigerian Engineers for sustainable rail development, NSE President expressed optimism that strengthened partnership between the NSE and NRC will spur innovation, drive infrastructure expansion, and contribute to long-term economic growth across the nation’s transportation sector.
