Technology, One Of The Pillars In Lagos Administration- Hamzat Obafemi

As a keynote speaker in the Engineering Summit Africa held at Lagos State University, Ojo, the Deputy Governor of Lagos state, Dr Obafemi Hamzat disclosed the government intentions to make technology a pillar in economic growth and sustainability in Lagos. According to him ,Lagos state has a fast paced growth that beats certain major cities in the world and with it ever increasing population density comes a need to improve on facilities and the standard of living of people. He urged the residents of lagos,students,public and private sectors to be vital arm for the development in the state.

Mr Hamzat represented by Mr Radaq Ajala revealed how the Lagos government is channeling its energy to technology development as a pillar,”we are speaking with the private sector on positioning Lagos as a technology talent pipeline for the world through training and job development. In pursuit of this the Lagos government plans to train a thousand youths in the state on the art of coding,that would prepare them to eventually be recruited for entries that demands these intermediate skills .

The decision of Lagos government to support technological developments in the state is because, technology is key among the six pillars that the Lagos administration would run on. He had listed these pillars as ‘T for ‘Traffic management and transportation,H- Health,E-education and technology,M- making Lagos a 21st century economy,E-entertainment and tourism, S-security in employment.

He challenged the educational sector and students to create researches and studies that would disrupt the economy.
”Students should now invest their time and energy in innovative activities,research and development studies; they should disrupt the society with technologies and innovations”. He further stated that Lagos state is committed to research and government funding.
