BEDC, TCN Collaborate To End Blackout In Benin

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company Plc and the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Benin Zone, have formed a synergy to end blackout in Benin metropolis.

To this end, the TCN has concluded plans to move a transformer from Irrua to Benin to tackle the power outage in Benin metropolis and its environs, which had put the Disco on collision course with the state governor, Godwin Obaseki.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the BEDC, after a joint coordination meeting between the TCN and BEDC in Benin to resolve common operational issues affecting them.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, BEDC, Mrs Funke Osibodu, led the management of the company to the meeting.

Osibodu said, “Without customer demand, there is no Disco. Without the TCN passing power to the Disco, there is nothing to distribute and without the generation companies, there is no generation.

No one leg of the value chain can function without the other; hence all parts are important. Irrespective of what is going on, we pool resources together in our network to assist and avoid political undertone.”

She advised the TCN and BEDC staff members to be careful by respecting the business and technical components of their operations as they affect lives.
