As the UK’s mobile operators gear up for the launch of 5G, we take a look at phones you can use to access it
5G is launching in the UK this summer, promising mobile internet speeds up to double that of current generation 4G.
This will allow users to download a full season of a TV show in minutes, stream graphics-rich games with virtually no lag, and keep in touch with real-time 4K video calls.
But the majority of smartphones currently on the market are not compatible with 5G, so will not benefit from the mobile network speed upgrade.
If you want to be get ahead of the curve, and be among the first in the UK to experience 5G data speeds, here are the phones you should be looking at buying:
Huawei Mate 20 X (5G)

The massive Huawei Mate 20 X is equipped with a 7.2-inch display, a triple-lens Leica camera and a 4200mAh battery for all-day battery life.
It’s also compatible with Huawei’s M-Pen – a high-tech stylus that supports 4,096 levels of pressure.
It will be available in one colour – emerald green – to pre-order in the UK, from late May and on-sale from June at selected retailers including EE, O2, Three and Vodafone.
OnePlus 7 Pro (5G)

The OnePlus 7 Pro has a slightly more modest 6.7-inch curved glass display with almost non-existant bezels, along with its own triple camera setup.
It also features a pop-up selfie camera, Dolby Atmos speaker technology, and “Warp Charge 30” technology, which means the massive 4,000mAh battery goes from 0-50% in just 20 minutes.
Price and availability have not yet been announced.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, a new 3D Depth Camera on both sides of the phone and a 4,500mAh battery with fast-charging technology.
It comes in Majestic Black and Crown Silver. It will be available to pre-order from 22nd May and will go on sale from 7 June via EE and Vodafone, as well as from Samsung itself.
Pricing has not yet been announced.
LG V50 ThinQ 5G
Price TBC
LG’s first 5G handset will feature a 6.4-inch OLED display, surround sound, and a 4,000mAh battery that is 20% larger than in the V40 ThinQ.
Both the front and rear cameras feature Video Depth Control to ensure that moving subjects remain in focus.
It will be exclusively through EE in the UK, but pricing has not yet been announced.
Oppo Reno
Price TBC
The Oppo Reno has a 6.6-inch OLED screen with a triple-lens camera on the rear, and a 16MP “AI beauty” front camera that “corrects light effects to adjust to every skin colour”.
It has a 4065mAh battery with “flash charging technology” for fast charging and longer battery life cycles.
Oppo has announced EE as its exclusive 5G launch partner in the UK. Pricing has not yet been announced.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 3
€599 (UK price yet to be confirmed)
The Mi MIX 3 from Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi features a 6.39-inch display with extremely thin bezels, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, a triple-lens rear camera.
It has an unusual magnetic slider design, which allows means the Sony selfie camera is concealed behind the screen until you slide it out.
The Mi MIX 3 5G will be available in May, with a starting price of €599, in Onyx Black and Sapphire Blue.
