The European Union and the German Government under the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing (FMPWH) is training some Nigerians to be certified as Professional Energy Auditors (PEAs) under the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP).
NESP currently in its second phase and under its Enabling Environmental Component is implementing activities aimed at developing local expertise on the provision of energy efficiency services. One of such activities relates to the topic of Energy Audits in Building. Albert Williams, a South African certified Energy Auditor who facilitated the training stressed the importance of the training in line with current global energy situation with regards to climate change and the current state of related mitigating strategies.
The 2-day general training seminar on the concepts of energy audits which took place in Abuja was the first phase where participants would be selected for a 3-week detailed training course on energy audit in practice. According to the Advisor, Energy Efficiency in Buildings, Edima Okodi-Iyah, on completion, participants would be passed through examination and certification and in phase three, successful participants will conduct a real energy audit in selected existing buildings in Nigeria.
They will also identify energy efficiency measures through the guidance and supervision of the professional energy expert. A similar seminar is taking place today in Lagos.
