Reengineering Industrialization In Nigeria. Mr Chima Ibeneche, founding partner at Execution Edge and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Falcon Corporation said that Reverse engineering is a method of reconstructing a manufactured product, to identify the components and their interrelationships to enable the products to meet the objectives. The major aim of reengineering is to figure out what technology is made of, how it is made and how its components interface to enable it meets its designed objectives.
According to him, ”The assumption that we can learn this kind of information by deconstructing a product is attainable because all manufacturing consists primarily of three steps. Firstly, the choice of materials to be used. Secondly, shaping of materials into components and thirdly, the assembling of the components into products ”.
Therefore, by Reverse engineering, we can identify the components used in making a product. Mr Ibeneche while outlining the benefits of the reengineering practice mentioned that, ”The information gathered from deconstructing products depends on the objectives of the reengineering effort. For instance, producing a replica of a product without necessarily on the license of the original manufacturer and guidance can be one of the efforts of Reverse engineering”.
He said that ”Alternatively, the information gained may be used as input into the design of a new and different product. The knowledge may also be used to design an interface protocol that enables interactivity of the reverse-engineered item with a different product.
According to him, ”In military situations where efforts are made to keep the design of weapons safe, Reverse engineering would help uncover these hidden components. In such a situation the knowledge gathered can be used to design even superior weapon or to design a defence against the weapon or simply to copy it.”
He defined Industrialization which was the second keyword in his speech as that which entails the replacement of human labour with machines in the production to improve production efficiency.
He listed four critical conditions that enable industrialization, first the availability of raw material that can be converted to valued product, the availability of energy for machines and processing materials which could be transformed through heat or chemical processes, third economic justification for investment in machines, fourth the regulatory policies that would help indicate the initial investment rate. These four things in place enable industrialization to succeed.
He stated that viable reengineering business with boundless opportunities in Nigeria include air conditioning which he described as the greatest economic driver because of the varying humid temperature of the country. He also listed the installation of the solar panel system, waste management and local means of transportation in personal mobility.
Mr Ibeneche spoke at the award ceremony and induction of new members at the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Victoria Island branch in Lagos.
