According to Xerox, The Company where Tesler spent part of his career till his demise, the computer scientist cum Silicon Valley inventor died at the age of 74.
The company said the former inventor who also invented find and replace amongst others was a former researcher.
Larry Tesler was a graduate of Stanford University. He specialized in human-computer interaction.
He was previously employed at Amazon, Apple, Yahoo, and the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) where he worked last.
According to reports, creating the idea of the cut and paste command was inspired by old-fashioned editing that involved actually cutting portions of printed text and affixing them elsewhere with adhesive.
The Computer History Museum in Silicon Valley says Tesler combined his knowledge of computer science training with a vision that computers should be for everyone.
The copy and paste command was made popular by Apple after being incorporated in software on the Lisa computer in 1983 with the original Macintosh being debuted the next year.
Tesler himself later worked for Apple in 1980 after being recruited from Xerox by late co-founder, Steve Jobs where he spent 17 years rising to the position of chief scientist.
After that he established an education startup and had stints in user-experience technology at Amazon and Yahoo.
