Lack Of Spare Parts Causing Frequently Breakdown Of Abuja-Kaduna Train — Amaechi

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has blamed the recurring breakdown of locomotives on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line on lack of spare parts.

Amaechi said the government was yet to receive the spare parts the ministry ordered to replace faulty ones.

He stated this yesterday after inspecting the progress of signaling and communication on the Lagos-Ibadan railway line at Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to him, the trains operating on the route were bought in 2016, stating that the ministry has written to President Muhammadu Buhari to approve the purchase of new ones.

According to him, once the request is approved, there would be more locomotives for the route.

Besides, the minister stressed the need for indigenous contractors to show the capacity to get on board for railway construction.

Speaking on the passenger traffic on Lagos-Ibadan rail, he stated that 42,000 passengers were conveyed in the month of June, saying there was hope the number would increase with time.
