Zungeru Hydropower Plant Gets Deadline For Completion

Nigeria’s fourth hydro-electricity generating power station, the 700MW Zungeru Hydropower Plant is to be completed by December.

A voluntary think-tank of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), The APC Legacy Awareness and Campaign (APC-LAC) disclosed this in its weekly assessment report of the activities of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

APC-LAC, in the report jointly signed by the APC National Youth Leader, Ismaeel Ahmed, former APC National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Isaa-Onilu and two other leaders of the group said on completion, the plant, together with other ongoing power projects across the country would significantly increase the country’s power stock.

The legacy group praised President Buhari-led administration‘s giant strides in the power sector, particularly for the completion of inherited and abandoned power projects by past administrations.

The group listed the inherited and abandoned power projects to include the 40MW Kashimbila Dam and Hydropower Plant; the 10MW Katsina Wind Farm; and the 30MW Gurara Hydroelectric Power Plant, which has been completed and concession to the private sector in 2020.

It also made reference to several power projects, including the gas-to-power infrastructure projects to buttress its assertion.

It noted: “The 342KM Escravos—Lagos Pipeline System Phase 2 (ELPS 2) has been completed, as has the Second Lot of the 130KM Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Gas Pipeline. Construction is ongoing on the 614KM Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline Project.

“When completed and operational, all of these projects will increase the amount of gas available to feed power plants across the country. In addition, the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), which are Government-owned entities in the sector, have completed and are completing hundreds of generation, transmission and distribution projects with renewed vigour under the Buhari administration.”
