NCC Approves New Numbering Plan For Telcom Operators

Nigeria. Communications Commission (NCC) has approved new numbering plan for the Nigerian fixed and wireless telephones.

With the approval, 296 telecommunication operators would ensure the allocation of the unique national numbers to each subscriber that is connected to their network.

The service providers are expected to immediately begin allocation of new numbers to their subscribers according to NCC document.

The NCC explained that the reason for new National Numbering Plan was to set up a uniform numbering scheme and the associated dialing procedures to be used in the network to allow the subscribers and operators to set up calls.

The document released the following numbers vi: Airtel – [0912, 0917] MTN [0913, 0916] Globacom [0915, 0905] 9Mobile [0908, 0909].

The highest of the numbers approved by the NCC for each access code is 10,000 lines while the least is 500 as well as others of 1000 and 2000 lines.

The National Numbering Plan provides, more importantly, a uniform dialing procedure for the following types of calls: Local Calls, National Long-Distance Calls, International Calls, Calls to Emergency and Special services independent of where the call is originating from in the country.
