SON Commences Free Nationwide Calibration Services To Manufacturers

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has flagged off a free nationwide calibration for industries to ensure equity and fairness in measurement to enable Nigerian products to compete in the global market.

The flag-off of the nationwide free calibration exercise was held at Gerawa Rice Mills, Kano.

According to him, SON has procured modern equipment to undertake the mobile exercise nationwide in order to get all industries calibrated at their doorsteps.

Salim said that the exercise would also help to prevent losses and ensure that consumers were not cheated.

Looking at the way standardization is going on across the globe, and considering the situation of our industries in the country, prompted the need to have these calibration machines in a mobile laboratory to ensure that all companies have an accurate measurement of their products,” Salim said.

In his remark, Kano State Regional Director of SON, Mr Albert Wilberforce, said the exercise was kick-started to boost the morale of indigenous companies to achieve greater heights.

SON has five principal laboratories located across the country. These include the Food Technology Laboratories, the Chemical Technology Laboratories and the Electrical/Electronic Laboratory, all located in Lekki, Lagos State.
