The House of Representatives Committee on National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure has called upon the agency to conduct research in key areas such as security, agriculture, and infrastructure with the aim of enhancing the country’s foreign exchange earnings.
Taofik Ajilesoro, the committee’s Chairman, gave the charge during the inaugural meeting held in Abuja on Thursday. He emphasized the committee’s expectation for intensified research efforts by the agency in the defense/security, agricultural, and infrastructural sectors. Ajilesoro underscored the potential of such endeavours to generate crucial foreign earnings, thereby fostering positive impacts on the nation’s socio-economic development.
Expressing the committee’s dedication to revitalizing the agency, Ajilesoro pledged their commitment to ensuring that it fulfils its mandate effectively. He clarified that the committee’s primary role is overseeing the activities of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), asserting their unwavering commitment to fulfilling this constitutional responsibility.
The chairman affirmed the committee’s readiness to utilize all legislative tools at its disposal to reposition and empower the agency in carrying out its statutory duties for the benefit of the nation.
