The Chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers,Ikot Ekpene Branch , Engr Uduak Effiong Essien will on Monday 8th April,2019 appear before an UYO federal high court in a suit seeking to compel the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI ,GCFR to appoint active COREN Registered Engineers as a Minister of Power, Works and Housing and a Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing.
According to him the time has come for Nigerian Engineers to rise to their responsibilities of providing steady and adequate power supply to Nigerians with good road networks and affordable housing scheme.
The current minister for Power, Works and Housing Mr Babatunde Fashola is a lawyer and the minister of state for same ministry is a sociologist. It will be recalled that President Buhari who is generally seen as a friend of the engineering profession enacted an Executive Order #5 to enforce BPP engagement of local engineering firms as preference; and recently assented the Engineering Regulation (COREN) Act 2018 to enforce engineering graduates are posted to engineering MDAs and companies during NYSC.
Engr Uduak Essien hereby call on Nigerian Engineers and the good people of this country to send in their support, inputs and relevant supporting documents to help the legal team in the struggle for total liberation of Engineering profession in Nigeria.
