The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), a division of The Nigerian Society of Engineers, organized a training on ‘Business Entrepreneurship to Strengthen Businesses and Produce Superior Outcomes’, one in many, proposed to be held quarterly every year.
The training which was an intimate and interactive session was held in Lagos. In attendance was the Chairman of the committee involved in this training, Engr. Kadri Funmilayo (Mrs.), who gave the introductory remark on the concept of value creation in the business sphere, and the other members of the committee. Also present were practicing women engineers, students, people interested in business and/or engineering, and media representatives across the country.
Business and entrepreneurship is a growing phenomenon which everyone needs to tap into and it is not restricted to those in a certain field. In line with this narrative, the committee in charge and the incumbent administration of this association, saw it fit to foster this mindset as a social responsibility for interested individuals.
Engr. Remilekun Hamid, an engineering fellow in the clean energy sector, gave a presentation on “Business in a nutshell”. She gave an in-depth analysis of the essential factors and strategies to consider when going into a business. She stressed on the need for entrepreneurs to provide a solution to problem, while ensuring that they are beneficial, and valuable to their target market.
There was a presentation on ‘Value delivery for entrepreneurs” done by Engr. Adebowale Zansi. She also emphasized on the need for participants to have a deep understanding of the kind of business they intend to establish, how they can function optimally, and the best channels for them to deliver value.
The Vice Chairman and some other members of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), were present at the training. There was a presentation by Mr Odah Williams (Head, Membership Services at LCCI). He introduced the institution to the attendees – their mission statement, vision statement, leadership structure, and basically a detailed information of their existence. He urged participants with businesses to connect to the organization to benefit in various capacities, stating the benefits of being a member of the chamber. Participants that indicated that they have established businesses in Lagos had their contact addresses and other information taken.
The training ended with a question and answer sessions. Participants were also presented with certificates to consolidate their participation in this Module 001.
