Snapchat Unveils New Features That Let Users Register To Vote In Its App

Snapchat has unveiled new guides and features on its app to help young users register and otherwise prepare to vote.

The social media company, which boasts a major following among Generation Z and Millennial Americans, launched four new features, including one that will allow users to register to vote directly in Snapchat.

That feature, called “Voter Registration Mini,” will also keep tally of how many users have registered to vote through the app.

The app is also launching a new “Voter Guide,” which will provide Snapchat users with information on voting-by-mail, voter registration and ballot education.

That information will be provided by organizations including the NAACP, ACLU, BallotReady, DemocracyWorks, APIA Vote, I am a Voter, Vote Early Day, National Voter Registration Day among others. Users can find the guide via keyword search.

The third feature, called “Before You Vote Mini,” will teach users about different voting options — such as in-person voting or voting-by-mail — and encourage them to make a plan of how they will vote.

The fourth and final feature is the “Voter Checklist,” a voter portal that will also serve as a checklist. It can be found in each user’s profile.

All four features will debut on the app in September.

In 2018, the company registered 450,000 people to vote through its app just before midterm elections.
