How It All Started At Age 11 For Me As A Developer

My career in tech all started when I was in primary school. Firstly, I (Shodipo Ayomide) took my time to learn the basics of how a Computer works (starting with the Microsoft platforms). After going through that, I decided to go higher as I knew there was more to what I was doing, so delved into Graphic Design.

My first graphic design package was Corel Draw, next was Adobe Photoshop, and other Photo Editing packages by Adobe. This was me in Primary School!

Now, My Secondary School Level…

I bumped into the wonder of programming in JSS1. I started my little research on it and was wowed at what I could do with it. I could build Web Apps, Mobile Apps, Softwares and even Android/IOS Games? Awesome!

Right there was when my journey began. I started out on my own by learning the Programming language {C++}. That was no easy journey for a teen at all, so I decided to seek an institution where I could learn but fees got in the way. However, I discovered a man named Mr Leke Ojikutu, an awesome developer.

After I discovered this rare gem, he spoke a little with my dad and I got a free training at his company Afrisoft Interactive.

I started from the scratch again, but this time with knowledge of where I was going. I was there for a month before school resumed. It was so nice an experience that I didn’t want to be so far away from my new found love… PROGRAMMING, so I continued afterwards with the web development training at Afrisoft Interactive, this took me 3 Months to learn perfect.

Secondary level At Age 14.

I went through my perfection level for additional 2 Months but still I wasn’t satisfied, I knew there was more to learn, so I went into Mobile App Development. Since there was no finance provided for me, I had to learn with the best friends my Uncle had introduced me to: GOOGLE and YOUTUBE.

I started with the simplest one called PHONEGAP, I then moved on to the advanced aspect: Android Studio(Java). It gave me many issues but I kept on pushing anyway, after a while, I just stayed put with web development.

Secondary level At Age 15.

At age 15, I decided to rebuild my company from where I last left it off at age 13; but this time it had a name and it is Avicsoft Interactive Inc.

While at it, I did minor jobs for firms that needed just a static website. The times I had no jobs, I took my Java course again. It was during this time that I wrote my first android app on Android Studio. I was so happy about this. Every one in my house heard this. I was so happy, I kept practicing all the time just to get a hang of it.

Secondary level At Age 16 (2017)

Age 16 was the golden year for me I would say. It was this year that I got in contact with way many tech companies in Nigeria: Facebook, Google, Andela, Univelcity, CCHUB, Voguepay, Flutterwave, Paystack, Hotels.ng, Techpoint.ng, and Nairaland.com among others.
