KEDCO To Expand Network For Improved Power Supply

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kano Electricity Distribution Company, Dr Jamilu Gwamna, on Thursday, said the company planned to expand power networks in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states to improve power supply in 2019.

Gwamna, who made the disclosure in his New Year’s message in Kano, said this became necessary in order to improve access to electricity and quality of power supply to more people within the states under KEDCO.

He said last year, there was an improvement of power distribution as a result of the expansion of power network, adding that more expansion would be its priority this year, so as to improve distribution and quality of power supply to customers.

He said, “In the area of network expansion for the purpose of improving the distribution of power, we have added 51,800 KVA with a length route of 33.72KM (33KV) and 17.86KM (11KV) and 55.4 KM (0.415KV).

This was undertaken to improve distribution and quality of power supply to our customers, who have already felt the impact, both for domestic and industrial purposes. This has served in growing key industries in Kano and other states, which impacted the sustainability of more industries in the states.

“We are on course to ensure we maintain the winning formula by expanding our power networks in 2019. When completely executed, we will lay a solid foundation for quality in power distribution and guarantee more access to electricity in more rural areas.”

The KEDCO boss said the company also provided a total number of 191 distribution transformers, adding that this would be replicated in the current year.

According to Gwamna, with the improvement of networks, it will be easier to achieve the target of expanding the customer benchmark in 2019,

“We have set a target of 508,000 by March and 1,000,000 by the end of 2019,” he added.

He, therefore, appealed to customers and host communities to extend the necessary support to KEDCO so as to serve them better this year.
