The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has on Thursday, 30th September 2021, inaugurated 9 newly Technical Board of Directors Development for all its Institutes following the approval by Mr President who doubles as the Chairman of the Agency.
The nine (9) inaugurated Technical Board of Directors Development Institutes are:
1. Scientific Equipment Development Institute (SEDI) Enugu.
2. Scientific Equipment Development Institute (SEDI) Minna.
3. Electronic Equipment Development Institute (ELDI) Akwa.
4. Hydraulic Equipment Development Institute (HEDI) Kano.
5. Engineering Materials Development Institute (EMDI) Akure.
6. National Engineering, Design and Development Institute (NEDDI) Nnewi.
7. Power Equipment and Electrical Machinery Development Institute (PEEMADI) Okene.
8. Prototype Engineering Development Institute (PEDI) Ilesha.
9. Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Institute (AMTDI) Jalingo.
While given a welcome address at the Orientation Centre, NASENI Headquarters in Abuja, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of NASENI, Engr. Prof. Muhammed Sani Haruna, disclosed that the Technical Board was recently approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in accordance with the Establishment Act of the Agency and implementation of the recommendation of inter-ministerial Ad-hoc Committee of the NASENI Governing Board.
“Members of these Technical Boards are among Nigeria’s very best Engineers and Scientists who have distinguished themselves in their area of specializations. Their nominations by various professional bodies and approved by Mr President is based on their pedigrees”, he noted.
Engr. Haruna added that NASENI is now open to further research and collaboration with both local and international company’s well as private sectors to establish in-house pilot production units and plants, demonstrate the commercial viability of research results and prototypes. He then urged the Nigerian Scientific and Engineering Professionals to utilize their technical know-how for economic transformation.
“With the Inauguration of these Technical Board today, Mr President who doubles as the Chairman of NASENI Governing Board, has fulfilled his promises to repositioning the agency to deliver globally competitive products and services. This in line with his administration’s economic diversification programme and commitment to transit the country from a consumer to a manufacturing economy”, Engr. Haruna said.
According to him, 3 institutes such as, Solid Minerals Machinery and Equipment Development Institute (SOMMEDI), Nasarawa; Heavy Equipment and Machinery Development Institute (HEMEDI), Bauchi; and Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Development Institute (AMEDI), Mbutu, Aboh-Mbaise, will have their respective Technical Board of Directors inaugurated in due course under NASENI.
Speaking at the occasion, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, who lauded the capabilities and commitment of the EVC towards economic sustainability through its diversified interventions across many sectors of the federation, noted that this would bridge an effective and efficient implementation of agency’s mandates.
Mustapha warned that the board is not an administrative board but a technical committee whish to supervise and monitor the functions of the Institutes within their specific mandates.
While congratulating the inaugurants, he vouched that his confidence that the composition of members of the technical boards will join in leading the way to new grounds for the nation in a very professional manner.
Nonetheless, the President of the National Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Babagana Mohammed, expressed that, today history is made, the inauguration of Professionals from fields of science and engineering under NASENI will yield positive results. He said, “these are not politicians but technical experts appointed to add value”.
Also Speaking, the President, Council of Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREL), Engr. Ali Rabiu, felicitated the newly technical boards and enjoined them to be more committed in discharging their mandates.
The Secretary to the NASENI, Dr. Olayinka A. Komolafe, also lend her voice, noted that the aim for this appointment is drive research and development of the Institutes for which they we’re inaugurated. She added that the members are wide traveled professionals, well informed and loaded with integrity.
